Understanding and Responding to Epilepsy

Vineetha Nakka is the Education Program Coordinator at The Center for Epilepsy and Seizure Education in BC. The Centre for Epilepsy in BC is a nonprofit organization and a member of the Canadian Epilepsy Alliance, a nationwide network of epilepsy support agencies. With 1 in 100 individuals being diagnosed with epilepsy, chances are that someone you know is effected by this condition. Implications on one’s daily life are many. They can range from memory issues, cognitive deficits, excessive fatigue and/or frequent seizures. The Centre provides one-on-one client support to individuals who are living with seizure disorders and offer free interactive presentations to groups throughout British Columbia. The presentations and subsequent discussions can often be incorporated into learning outcomes required for health and career education.
Their epilepsy presentations benefit individuals by giving them a better understanding of epilepsy and practical skills in seizure first aid. This understanding can alleviate stigmas and fears, improving the lives of those effected by epilepsy.
