There was no better way to kick off the new Rotary year than by presenting the proceeds of our 2022 Hoop-a-thon fundraising campaign to an incredible group of young students and youth program leaders!

This year's campaign set another new record by surpassing our target of $50,000 by almost $10K and brought our Hoop-A-Thon fundraising total to over a half million dollars for kids at risk.

How did we distribute the funds you might ask...

Representatives of the supporting Lower Mainland Rotary Clubs, including the Rotary Clubs of Vancouver, Vancouver Sunrise, Arbutus and Fraserview met with program leaders and scholarship recipients on July 10th to present:

  • $35,000 to 13 Scholarship Recipients - see story below.

  • $16,000 to Boys Who RISE (Respectable Individuals Striving Everyday) youth leadership program.

  • $4000 to Girls Who LEAP (Lead, Empower, Act with Purpose) youth leadership program https://www.girlswholeap.com.

  • $4000 to help re-start the Strathcona Community Centre Basketball program in the post-pandemic lockdown with $300 for sponsorship of the Unity Jam 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament and fundraiser, and $3,700 for equipment, coaching and transportation.

  • $745 to Strathcona Elementary for their EarlyAct Club to sponsor their School Pride Parade and purchase LGBTQ+ VSB-approved school library books.
