One of our June highlights was a neighbourhood Pride Parade that was organized and led by our Strathcona Elementary School EarlyAct Club members on June 16th.

Undaunted by the stops and starts of changing pandemic restrictions, and with strong support from teacher sponsor Doug Sherrett and seed funding from our Sunrise club, the 30+ member EarlyAct Club at Strathcona started work on this service project in early May.

The results were nothing short of spectacular!
Students and teachers from every class joined in the parade with homemade banners, costumes and floats as parents, neighbours and well-wishers cheered them on. The parade finished with a rally in MacLean Park where the kids celebrated with music and snacks.

The Strath kids were joined by students from two other east-end elementary schools, šxʷwəq̓ʷəθət Crosstown Elementary and Admiral Seymour Elementary. Plans are already in the works to grow the event next year based on inquiries and interest from other schools.
